Meet The Team
South Wales Farm Vets has been proudly independent since 2017. While we share personal ties with Maes Glas Vets and Park Vets, we now operate as a fully separate practice, dedicated solely to serving our farming community.
Our team consists of eight passionate vets, each bringing unique skills and special interests to the practice. Supporting them are our three fantastic receptionists, all with farming backgrounds, ensuring they understand your needs just as well as we do.
We’d love for you to get to know our team, here’s a little introduction to each of us!
-
Mary Walters
Director
BVSc Cert VR Cert CHP MRCVS
Mary graduated from the University of Bristol in 1993 and joined Park Vets straight away, starting her career in a fully mixed practice. Over the years, she has gained postgraduate qualifications in Veterinary Radiography and Cattle Health & Production. She has also shared her expertise by teaching veterinary radiography to nurses at Pencoed College and later lecturing on Farm Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bristol Farm Animal Hospital. Today, she enjoys all aspects of farm animal practice, with a particular interest in infectious diseases.
Outside of work, Mary helps her husband, William, on their arable farm while also being a busy mum to Henry and Maggie. She’s an enthusiastic badminton player, enjoys running, and loves taking her very well-fed Jack Russell terrier on walks.
-
Rhian Matthews
Director
BSc (Hons) BVetMed MRCVS
Rhian’s journey into veterinary medicine began with a BSc Hons in Genetics and Biochemistry from Cardiff University in 2006. After gaining hands-on experience working on a large local dairy farm and later on a beef and sheep station in New Zealand, she was inspired to return to university to pursue veterinary medicine. She graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2011, started at Maes Glas just two days later, and went on to become a partner in the business before co-founding South Wales Farm Vets.
Well known in the local farming community, Rhian has been actively involved in the Glamorgan Young Farmers Federation from a young age. Outside of work, she keeps busy running Colliers Adventure Farm, managing her flock of Dutch Spotted sheep, and overseeing the beef and sheep farm she runs with her husband Rhys, all while raising their daughter, Evie.
-
Morgan Hanks
Director
BVSc MRCVS
After graduating from Bristol in July 2011, it was natural that Morgan join Park Vets as a mixed vet having spent most of her student years seeing practice there. Morgan became part of the South Wales Farm Vets team when it was established in 2017, joining Mary and Rhian as a director in 2020. She also works 1 day per week still at Park Vets getting her small animal fix. She married a local dairy farmer in 2021 which keeps her busy at home.
When not in work she enjoys keeping fit including playing squash and helping out at her parents’ small holding.
-
Thomas Searle
BVetMed (Hons) MRCVS
After graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2014, Tom joined Park Vets as a mixed vet before moving to South Wales Farm Vets when it was established, driven by his strong passion for farm practice. He enjoys all aspects of farm work, with a particular focus on beef and sheep fertility and productivity. His special interest lies in advanced sheep breeding, and he played a key role in setting up the practice's sheep embryo transfer and AI services.
Outside of work, Tom is experimenting with woodworking and DIY projects (with mixed results!) and enjoys tending to his allotment during the spring and summer months.
-
Russell Fuller
MA VetMB DBR MRCVS
Russell graduated from Cambridge University in 2003 and earned a Diploma in Bovine Reproduction from the University of Liverpool in 2016. After starting his career in traditional mixed practice, he has focused exclusively on farm animal work since 2008, primarily in dairy practice, before joining us in 2018.
Russell’s professional interests include cattle reproduction and ruminant nutrition. He has taught cattle foot trimming and mastitis courses at Hartpury College and is also a registered cattle mobility scorer.
Outside of work, Russell is passionate about swimming, has recently taken up bodyboarding to make the most of living near the coast, and has a love for food. Whether it's cooking or enjoying a good meal.
-
Sian Fuller
BVSc MRCVS
A local girl with strong agricultural roots, Sian grew up on her family’s beef and sheep farm, making her well-known in the area. She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2004, having spent much of her student years gaining hands-on experience with local vets, often hearing the phrase, "Your dad built that shed!" After qualifying, Sian worked in mixed practice across mid Wales and the southwest of England before focusing exclusively on farm animal practice in 2012.
Sian has since earned a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, specializing in sheep health and production, and is a registered cattle mobility scorer.
Outside of work, Sian is a passionate hockey player, enjoys a bit of cricket in the summer, and loves watching rugby, though these days, she prefers to spectate rather than play!
-
Rachel Davies
PGC SAM BVetMed MRCVS
Rachel grew up on a beef and sheep farm in the Brecon Beacons, so returning to mid Wales after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College of London in 2008 felt like coming home. She spent nine years working in mixed practice before making the switch to small animal practice in 2017. However, after realizing that being clean and warm wasn’t quite for her, Rachel joined us on a part-time basis in 2019. After a brief break to welcome her first child, she’s back with us and can be found around the practice on Mondays and Thursdays.
Outside of work, Rachel is a passionate skier, making the most of time on the slopes, although, with a little one now in the picture, it may become a bit more challenging!
-
Jimmy Jackson
BVMS MRCVS
Jimmy, a hill farmer’s son from the Scottish Highlands, graduated from Glasgow Vet School some time ago. After qualifying, he spent his career in mixed practice across Central Scotland, focusing primarily on farm work. Together with his wife, also a vet, Jimmy ran his own mixed practice from 1985 until his retirement in 2020.
Following retirement, Jimmy moved to South Wales to be closer to his two daughters who live in the area. However, it didn’t take long for retirement to lose its charm, and he soon joined us part-time, enjoying getting back to vetting.
Jimmy’s wife is a farmer’s daughter from South Wales, so they have strong family ties to the region. They have three children: the eldest is an anaesthetist, the middle daughter is a teacher, and their youngest son is a GP in Glasgow. They also have three grandchildren, two granddaughters and a grandson, which keep Jimmy busy.
You’ll often spot Jimmy cruising around in his Land Rover Defender, pondering why Welsh hill farmers choose to build their homes at the top of the hill rather than at the bottom, as his Scottish counterparts do!
-
Sarah Woollatt
BVetMed PGCert MRCVS
Sarah has been working in farm animal practice since graduating from the Royal Veterinary College (London) in 2017. Her love for farming and the countryside developed during university, where she found herself spending far more time lambing and calving than strictly necessary! After qualifying, she made her way west, following the cows, and worked across Hampshire, Wiltshire, and Somerset before relocating to Cardiff in 2023. Proud of her half-Welsh heritage, Sarah is thrilled to be closer to family in South Wales.
On the professional side, she’s nearly completed her Cattle Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice and has a keen interest in infectious diseases, public health, and teaching.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys letting off steam on the hockey pitch, hiking, biking, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
-
Sian Lloyds
Administration
Sian has been with Park Vets since leaving school, primarily working in the office to assist farm clients. So, when South Wales Farm Vets was established, it was a natural fit for her to join the team. Sian is our go-to expert for all things TB, handling the vital behind-the-scenes paperwork for the vets ahead of tests.
Outside of work, Sian is busy renovating an old hill farm she shares with her partner, Rhys, and their son, Dylan. She’s enjoying the hands-on experience of managing their smallholding and hopes to add sheep and pigs to their collection in the future.
-
Helen Dando
Receptionist
Helen joined us in May 2018 as a receptionist after leaving her position as General Manager at a private women’s health clinic. You’ll mostly hear Helen’s bubbly personality when you contact the practice as she mans the office half the week. She lives on a local farm with her son Lewis and also has a daughter Hannah.
Helen is well known in the farming community through her many years of being a member of Llantrisant YFC.
-
Tracey Huntley
Receptionist
Tracey joined our team in early 2019 as a receptionist, and with the growth of our advanced sheep breeding work in 2022, she has also been assisting Tom with this specialized area. A farmer’s wife, Tracey and her husband, Jonathan, run a beef and sheep farm on a hill farm near Pontypridd. They have three children, Thomas, Ffion, and Rhianne, who all share a passion for farming.
Tracey is heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the family farm, enjoying the outdoor work and caring for the livestock, and she’s particularly skilled at lambing sheep.
